Location: BlueStream Gallery, 555 Grant

Description of Event:

Join us for a dynamic and inclusive event celebrating the fusion of photography and how it ties into your mental health. The first portion of the program will be a panel and Q&A moderated by nonprofit Dear Community and joined by our photographers and Kaiser Permanente mental health expert. The second part of the program will be interactive, where all attendees are encouraged to bring their own camera as we take photos through Chinatown with our professional panelists to help and provide tips! After taking photos, we will reconvene back at BlueStream Gallery and talk through our photos.

About the Panel of Creatives:

Horatio Jung : 1982 - My passion for photography began at a very early age when I used to go to houses of my friends and look through their parent's album. Many years later, wanting to document my travels with my wife, I entered into the realm of DSLRs.It was not until my first born daughter, Stephanie, that I got serious about photography as well as videography. My second born daughter, Kristen accelerated the photography and videography capture due to her involvement in after school sports. I am very glad that I have so many photos and videos of their childhood as we approach the age of marriage. Who would have thought the Throw-Back-Thursdays would be such a big part of today's social media?

42 years later, my passion is still strong in capturing moments. Meeting and working with Elaine Lee Photography in the recent 16 years has transformed my work into production, event capture, cinematography, and photo booths. 2015 marks my transition to Mirror-less photography and Drones. While Drone photography is not new, it lends to a totally new perspective from totally different angles.

It was not until after working for 45 years in the private, public, and quasi-public sectors as an Assistant Controller, Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, Sign Shop Owner, Group Support Manager for Macy’s, and Purchasing Manger for the OGGYN and Urology Departments of UCSF; that I found out that there was a difference between academic and vocational prowess.I never found any joy or achievement is my work until I delved fully into the creative side of photography.

Meeting people and seldom being in the same place is a real benefit that comes with this territory.Cameras are coming closer and closer to iPhones in use and vice-versa; all welcome changes as we work towards better ways to serve our clients. AI in 2024 will accelerate the capture and post production modes and I look forward to perhaps another decade of capturing those in-between moments.
